For that much driving I’d look into an electric car- especially if the tax credits get extended. A Bolt has plenty of range, and could be had well under budget, plus no more gas bills or oil change. 

What if we built some kind of guide system for these autonomous trucks right into the road, so that the truck didn’t have to steer itself the whole time and can instead just follow a track, since there will be tons of trucks driving the exact same route? commuting in a very hilly city and manual is not going to make you very happy. Of course, Omaha may not be as “hilly” as SF for example, which has streets that are more than a 30% grade.

This. Whenever I’m driving a car other than mine, the first thing I hunt down is the button that turns the screens and backlights off. My Nissan can black out even more than Saab’s night mode (literally everything except dash warning lights, of which there are...currently too many), and this easily became my favorite…

As a nearsighted person this is a 100% nope for me.  When I drive at night I have every light source I can turned off or to minimum to reduce eye strain, even the cruise control light is too bright for me.  

At least you have a vehicle - I had to walk 650 miles each way, uphill in the snow with 2 different strains of COVID and a hangover.

If there is another EV tax incentive, it should only go towards affordable EVs or middle to low income people only. Luxury and high end EVs have already proven themselves to be competitive. Well off people have already shown they like and can afford EVs as well have the detached private homes that really suit EVs…
