True, but still Mirror’s Edge appeals a lot more to me visually than generic 3D art that is used in most games. Of course it’s a matter of taste but I wouldn’t point at the lack of computing power as a reason that 3D games can’t be stylized. If anything, stylizing frees up a lot of computing power. For example, in a…
Yeah, but even then, it’s jarring to me that the cutscenes look so different from the main game.
I don’t see why 3D generated cutscenes are considered to be ‘less effort’ ? To me (personally) they look better than ‘hand drawn’ cutscenes in almost every way. In “Ni no kuni” the opening scenes were awesome (as you can expect from Ghibli) but it was also quite clear that the ending cutscenes were rushed. In 3D you…
I can’t believe technical barriers are what prevent 3D artists from applying more style to their games. We had great looking stylised 3D games on the dreamcast (jet grind radio). I think it has more to do with major publiishers rather not taking the risk that nobody likes their new style. Even Zelda The Wind Waker…
Finally someone who notices this too.... If you’d just take a screenshot of the surroundings in a fantasy game (The Witcher, Dragon Age) without a major protagonist in it, you couldn’t even tell which game you’re playing.
Yes. It does not exist in games.
I’m a bit worried about the disconnect between the hand-drawn anime (which is jumpy/jittery/24fps at best) and the 3d graphics (which are smooth/60fps). I really don’t see why games need hand-drawn animation at all anymore? In “Ni no Kuni”, the 3D actually looked much better. Even if they both look good, it’s still a…
3D costs so much more manpower to design and produce that they always go for the simplest most basic available style that is already used in 10.000 other games. It’s the reason almost all 3D games look exactly the same... boring...
How can art not be stylized?
Yeah so I gathered, but it doesn’t make sense does it? They can power robots and I’ve seen flying machines in the trailers.
Whaaat so you can’t visit Kotaku AT ALL unless you’ve finished every recent game that came out?
Well in this case it’s impossible to avoid isn’t it? When scanning the front page you’ll already have seen it. Even though it’s not really a spoiler....
It IS hard to avoid though, even if you don’t click the article you’ll have seen the GIF while browsing kotaku’s main page. Then again, I don’t see how a flying fist is a spoiler.
I don’t remember Apple themselves ever saying their Apple TV was going to compete with dedicated game consoles. What it does is make popular iOS games playable on the TV.
Still, I can’t help but remain astounded that even Fallout 4 won’t have drivable vehicles.... I mean even in a world without gas stations, they’re able to build all kinds of crazy stuff from scrap... robots, power suits, etc. —- so why not vehicles?
I can’t say I really like the protagonist though. Does he have any customization options, or do you really HAVE to play yet another white standard unshaven male Nathan Drake clone? Can’t believe developers are still going for this look.
I don’t get it. This isn’t Cammy. What have they done!
This is Cammy????
Would have been better to just reprint the entire cover.
