Now, you might think the easy way around this is to use the time machine to travel back and ensure NBC has the idea first. But the show's own rules have made that basically impossible, because nobody can interact with themselves.
I think they still could be, or at least Fitz and Simmons could be. Unless I'm forgetting something, SHIELD has never had such a simple 'LMD detector' system before.
