I'm sorry, I didn't mean for it to come across as condescending. I just didn't want to seem like I was dictating what people other than me do/say. I was looking for feedback as to whether my ideas were common or not. I apologise for the bad phrasing.

Personally I wouldn't want to love forever either. Especially as my body has gotten less energetic even in my twenties!

The cynic in me wonders if there are actually millions of girls who masturbate... Sex education in that respect combined with religious pressure and lack of pop culture mention probably greatly reduce the amount of young women who would know how to.

I really do love your speculative articles. And harking back to previous articles where others disagreed with the style you took, I feel that you always make it clear when you are speculating, and you still present facts to support your speculation, which is why I appreciate your work so much.

Let's have some anecdata!

This is my favourite exercise to give to first year anthro students! Give them the Acirema piece for reading, then discuss what the future will think of us based on what we leave behind, and how easy it is to misconstrue things based on our own reasons for what we do.

If they do, wonky eyes would become fashionable and we would all be trying to get one.

You seem to be confusing Iggy with someone else. She is white. Even if she was claiming aboriginal heritage, she is not 'visibly aboriginal'. She has none of our indigenous features. At all.

Regarding 2, it makes me so sad that he was trying to tell her she had worth beyond what men thought of her, yet her mother has turned her entire career into people focusing on her body. How different her life would have been had her father survived! She may have become a proper celebrity stylist like she was

Our indigenous people don't live in Igloo's, since our country is mostly outback. It's just a name that sounds like Iggy and maybe because she's so pale? She's not American anyway.

Can you imagine kids that look like Taylor but with bright red hair!! Omg, it would be adorableness overload!

I couldn't figure out a better way to explain it other than 'more lemony than lemonade' so here's a link to the product sold in Aus, and there is a link on the right of the page to what we consider lemonade.

I find that really interesting. So, do people just ask for a coke and the host give them whatever carbonated beverage they have? Or is it just that everyone everywhere drinks coke as a default?

Cordial is a specific drink which is concentrated liquid flavoured sugar; we mix a small amount of it with water. Juice is 100% fruit juice, and Fruit Drink is kind of a mix of juice and cordial you buy pre-made.

Yeah, I figured most people would know coke means coke, I was just intrigued by all the comments where ordering Coke needed specification beyond 'diet'? I guess. So thought I'd add my experiences. Language usage of the same words but with different meanings is a pet study of mine.

Soft drink encompasses all fizzy drinks with sugar, whereas Coke is a specific brand, Soda is most commonly referred to mean Soda water. All of these are the south Aussie terms I'm familiar with.

I agree. We have evidence of many civilizations rising and falling to become scattered villages and then rising again. It seems counter to all evidence to claim that the the first civilizations occurred over such a vast time, while other homo species didn't have symbolic thought, when it is proven that they were

Except we don't KNOW that other animals don't think, we only know that we have both the mental and physical abilities to use tools, and have advanced language. The animals closest to us physically also use tools, but do not have the physical ability to form words the way we do. If great apes, chimps and monkeys had

I've always thought that was the best way to go about it. Cuts down on the complaining for the sake of complaining. With the caveat that the people who decided the complainer should be in charge can't in turn complain if they suck, since if they weren't into it in the first place, they probably won't put in their best.

My Uncle is a Hermit. A proper hermit, not just a partial hermit. He lost his wife when they were very young. When she died he withdrew into himself and withdrew from everything but some of us in the family. He spent 40 years living in the hills in a little house, and has gained multiple doctorates. To me, he is a
