So, when they changed the standards for what is "obese" and "overweight", all those people magically became unhealthier?

It's not fat that makes people unhealthy, it's poor diets and sedentary lifestyles. Depending on metabolism and a number of other factors, one can have poor habits that contribute to poor health

Have you told your sister to not breed because she thinks obesity is normal? Is that how you show your love? Because from where I'm sitting, you've been a total fucking asshole to me.

Circle jerk is exactly right. When did Jezebel turn into fucking Heathers. YOU MUST THINK AS WE THINK. Or we'll fill the thread with hateful personal attacks on you.

I'm with you. I was a freakishly tall and skinny kid (before I filled out a lot at about 8 and became a freakishly tall fat kid) so my clothes never fit properly. I also was always losing my stuff, always my hair was a mess and always my laces were untied/clothes half hanging off on one side/etc, always covered in

Please don't start with parent shaming with the "In most cases." My mom did everything she could to get me to lose weight. I was on my first diet when I was 7? 8? Nutrisystem when I was 11. She sent me to fat camp. She sent me to doctors.

Yes, guys are growing fuller beards and wearing plaid and sweaters as a nod to timely fashion icon, Paul Bunyon. Or maybe, you know, because winter is coming...

I live here too and the only people who are framing this as "an attack on Christmas" are the media.

The Montgomery County School District in Maryland is taking the War on Christmas to its logical conclusion

Ok, this is the school district my daughter attends school in and to be perfectly honest, I'm 100% fine with this. I think that the media has DRASTICALLY overplayed the anti-Muslim card in all of this. This is an incredibly diverse, highly educated, very liberal county - I don't believe at all that this was about

I like dogs, but as a representative for Team Cat I'm a little disappointed that this event doesn't include Petfinder's other equally home-needing animal.

Yeah, I think Unilever's move is backfiring here. I wasn't familiar with Just Mayo before this, and now I am. If you google either Hellman's or Just Mayo, the lawsuit is the first thing to come up. I'm not a mayo person but I would imagine a vegan (i.e. looks healthy and trendy!) alternative would be attractive to

They've also aggressively pursued market share in a different way than other vegan mayo's — they are upfront about saying that they want their product to replace/be used in place of regular mayo, and that they want to be available to a broad public (hence Walmart and Dollar Store placement) vs. just wanting to be a

Lindy West wasn't like that was she? Maybe I was just such a big fan I'm delusional.

I only wish that I, or anyone, could go under the same circumstances that our beloved 15 yr. old dog did last year after a year of declining health - in the comfort of her home, with the first shot causing her to drift off to sleep in my arms and the second to stop her heart. I tear up as I type this, but as the vet

It was a bright cold day in April, and the clocks were striking thirteen.

DT isnt REALLY scifi but scifi enough

I've had to put two of my cats down in recent years; one was 13 and the other was 15. Both had had strokes. It was clear that, in addition to being in pain, they were both scared of what was happening to them. When I brought them to the vet and was told in each instance that the only kind thing to do was euthanize

Thank you, Mark.

Why don't people think this is true of humans? I want to die by euthanasia, and I have no problem telling people about it. I have had this thought since I was about 15, which was bloody controversial then and landed me in two therapy sessions before the shrink was eventually like, "Hey, this kid's got a point."

Thank you - this is so true. They don't understand why they are suffering and they live for today - not tomorrow. In my opinion, it's better a week too early than a day too late. I waited a too long with one of my cats and I will never, ever hesitate to make that decision again. It is a gut wrenching one to make, but
