The takeaway should be - early previews of Halo were a hot mess and MS delayed the game to get it right. But that won’t be the take away because that would be a management fail. Instead they will just shrug it off as bad timing/luck. 

Since they were looking at Halo - they should have noted MS saw the game was a mess and you know actually delayed it. instead of the shove out and fix it later approach. sure they took a short term hit in pr but the game is far better for that and doing well.

You left out sales data on iTunes sales - I tend to buy my music there - mostly because Amazon doesn’t always have what I am looking for - or not right at release anyways. I’d be curious how the artist fare on those sales.

I think they had no intention of backtracking until other companies started canceling them - hurting business more than the project profit here. They didn’t care at all about the public or their fans opinions. It wasn’t until the bottom line started taking hits that there was a backtrack.

I think part of it is if you watch a streamer play a game you didn’t play the game. If you watch a streamer watch a movie - you watched the movie to. You want to play the game after seeing the stream you still gotta buy the game. you wanna watch the movie after watching the streamer - why bother? you already watched it

I feel like this is bigger than retro games - many collectibles are skyrocketing, retro games, trading cards of all types, sneakers, hot wheels - even my own weird niche of kpop albums. A highly sought after out of print album I got for $50 6 months ago now goes routinely for $300-400. in just 6 months - that is nuts!
