A better analogy would be if Apple let you buy discs with games on them to install as an alternate model to downloading content. M$ would be happy to have an online-only model like the ipad, but they simply cannot with games in the 25-50gb range.

Probably smart. There are some killer games within the first year, but only 4-5 comfirmed at launch and delays could put off some of the biggest games like Infamous

So still thinking about a PS4, but I'm looking at the launch titles and they are pretty slim (at least confirmed launch). The only one's Ive seen confirmed are Knack, Killzone, Watchdogs and Driveclub with BF4 and The Witness as maybes.

And yet there will be an iphone 6 in 6 months and most of the people with 4S's will switch.

That's not a title you'd even want to. On the other hand there are some fantastic platformers and brawlers that are absolutely fantastic (at least on IOS), but are only held back by not having buttons.

But they aren't going to take away your single player games. I'm not sure why anyone would get his response to mean that they'll take away your single player games.

People might as well worry about the machine eating them while they sleep. If you are going to worry about fictional scenarios that have never happened, then there is more than just single player gaming to worry about.
