I think that marrying someone you don’t know under the illusion that you are saving a life or participating in a human rights stand is not wise at all. I understand given what we have her it seems like a really righteous thing to do.. but to me advocating that “someone could marry a Syrian refugee” is oversimplifying…

She might have changed her birthdate. My mother changed her records (I think it had something to do with SSN paperwork??) so that her ID would reflect a 3 year age increase that allowed her to work and drive at a young age. She didn’t change it back until she had me.

There are numerous approaches to this situation that would have been better than physically assaulting a child!! I live in the surrounding area, and seeing this behavior from the local off-duty policemen shocks, but sadly does not at all surprise me.

I find that people who grew up well off usually add some sort of exception “but my parents never told me how much we had so I didn’t grow up thinking we had money” or “but they always asked me what I was spending it on so it’s not like I had an unlimited account”.
