You’d be right about abandoning trade marks if it was another unrelated game trying to use the same name. The fact they are saying it’s a return of a “classic” game means they’re infringing on copyright which is a totally different matter.

18 years ago? They’re using it now - they’re not making new content, I think, but they’ve got the old stuff up on DriveThruRPG. They’re using the Star Frontiers name commercially to this day, and they don’t want this garbage (it is incredibly racist, and that is only one of its many problems) confused with the stuff…
Not just his bad sense (Gary’s). The people who had control after him didn’t make great decisions either (a poorly recieved Buck Rodgers game that the CEO made licensing off of since her family owned the rights to the old pulp hero). But his definitely are the ones that lead to him losing control of the company.
WOTC announced Planescape and just released Spelljammer, in case you didn’t know. Heard Spelljammer had some issues and Planescape is apparently going to focus on Sigil. Really excited for that one.

I honestly do not get some people. Imagine having the luxury and time to work on designing a game and selling it. Instead what you do is take your hatred for people different to you so far that you design the game around that and burn everything you had in the process.
This doesn’t surprise me. I’ve met Ernie Gygax and he came off as an out of touch old asshole riding on his “famous” dads coat tails.
I remember playing the original Star Frontiers, and I remember it was a TSR product, so I can confirm that much. I don’t remember any content like that in the original. It’s been decades but...That feels like it’d stand out.

Comparing Jin Sakai to Eivor and Cassandra doesn’t really bring down Jin Sakai so much as it highlights the central problem with UbiSoft’s AC characters and its veiled interests in historical accuracy.
Sekiro is made by Japanese developers and he has zero sex either. Internalized foreign stereotypes, or just not that kind of game?
In before “Japanese reviews loved Ghost of Tsushima, therefore any and all critcism is invalid”
