First of all, its not just Republicans who oppose this pseudointellectual nonsense. Second, we oppose it because it is pure sophistry and entirely racist. It “otherizes” white people and blames “whiteness” for every ill and problem in the world. It reduces every individual down to their race, skin color, and gender.

So... when the AV Club was first founded, what was the racial breakdown of the original staff and management?

Trying to decide if i’m going to ditch this site for its racist past or not.

It’s weird how much the left and the right share when it comes to “attractive white woman needs to be taken down a peg by any means necessary.”

They were probably hungover from the long weekend, checked Twitter, and said “Fuck it! I’ll cover this. This will get clicks.

“‘Cancel Culture’ doesn’t really exist, bit if it did, it would be about people being taken to task and having their careers ruined for things they did 22 years ago, when they were dumb teenagers, probably under pressure from their families and peers, as part of an event with a racist past, that had started to show at

You see, a couple decades ago she participated in an organization that was pretty racist a few decades prior. This made me realize that, since I went to a college that only desegregated a hundred years before I was born, I’m also in the Klan, so now I have to deal with that.

I’m a year or two younger than her, and I’m AA. I grew up in the St. Louis area. I vaguely remember when the name was changed from “The VP Fair” to “Fair St. Louis”. I attended both iterations of the event every year and looked forward to it, as did loads of people from all over the area and beyond. In the 90's, it

Bit rich coming from the pasty AV Club of all places

There’s more black people at Veiled Prophet Ball than work at the AV Club

You know, AVC, you can’t regularly call Twitter a shitty hell website and then give in to its worst tendencies constantly.

I'm legitimately impressed that this site can run multiple articles a week saying that there's no such thing as cancel culture, and then turn around and write this bullshit. The lack of self-awareness is incredible.

Was really hoping AVC wouldn’t report on this nonsense. But of course they did.

Barsanti didn't write this?

Oh man, you didn’t check in to see how this insane stretch of a nothing-burger was getting roasted over at The Root? Cause it’s getting no traction there, and it feels like their readership should know.

There’s really not much of anything here. The headline and the beginning of the story made it sound like Erin from The Office was burning crosses and shit. Nope, she attended some corny debutante ball thing that has a racist past. Most of the US has a racist past.

Am I missing something? I see no connection other than the origins of the festival or party or whatever that would tie her to KKK leanings. If dumbass Black people wanted to join that bullshit, that’s of course their choice but I don’t see where she was personally connected to the KKK or even racism. I also think it’s

No matter how many times we say “cancel culture is a myth,” it doesn’t make it true. I wish we could just acknowledge that so-called cancel culture has some negative implications along with all the positive effects (accountability, etc.).

Are you kidding ?

Nearly every initial press account of this incident- which was based on the secondhand accounts of family members- was completely contradicted by the bodycam footage. Heres a picture of the dead girl about to plunge a six inch knife into the woman in pink
