The point is that you are refusing to listen to what the woman is actually saying. If you ask a woman out and she says “Sorry, I have a boyfriend” that means she considers “I have a boyfriend” to be a negative response to “Let’s go out.” (or “Can I have your number” or whatever it is you say.)
