I’m the exact same as you. While the styling is timeless, it is boring. I’ve driven multiple current GTIs/R32s and Rs from MK4’s-7's and they do nothing for me.

Everyone shits on these movies but as a 31 year old, this franchise has basically been something I’ve looked forward too for like half my life. I don’t even care how bad some of them may be or how they’ve drifted away from cars. I just like these and will always go see them.

I like the my GTI for that reason (and the plaid seats are awesome). Its a comfortable but fun daily driver. The interior looks and feels higher quality than other comparable cars. And everyone doesn’t try to race you from a stoplight because your car looks fast. 

You say bland, I say refined and classic. VW’s are relatively timeless - 10-15 year old Mk4's still look just as great as they did when they came out. The same can’t be said about some of these new “dynamically-styled” design languages...

Thank god, I thought I was the only one not taken in with VW. I just don’t feel that the brand, styling or vehicles really resonate with me. I’d rather stick with Ford for the hot hatches.

Same. I’ve just never been into the aesthetics of VW, they just look so bland to me. I don’t really like hatchbacks in general, but I do really like the Focus RS.

I used to be that way until I got a mk7 GTI, now you can’t take me out of a VW

And you don’t have to drive a Porsche to appreciate these virtues. I feel sorry for the young people who have never experienced anything like the tactility of the unassisted steering on my ‘92 Metro.
