I think those are some real broad generalizations you’re making there that don’t really account for what the real differences between Western and Japanese games are.
Final Fantasy XV is a really, really bad hill to try to draw the “casual vs. longtime fan” divide on.
I’ve been playing Final Fantasy titles since the first one dropped in the West in 1990, and I would rank XV pretty damn low on the franchise ladder. I’ve expressed why at exhaustive length in other threads, so I won’t…
Man, never really got into the sports titles, was thinking I should cuz i heard some like Strikers were really good, was going to get the new tennis, though after this I’m a little spooked. Will prolly get it anyway I guess, and hope it’s good. :)
My local game store sells em for $99, or do whenever they get some in and they typically don’t fly off the shelves, so got mine easy, lucky me I guess! ...then shelled out $50 for a sweet organizer for that big box.

I feel your pain on the board games. I’ve really had to control myself to keep my bookshelves from buckling and and my bank account from breaking. Especially when you get into some of the heavier weight or mini intensive stuff.
Another thing to consider is that, I’m willing to bet, consumers who spend on microtransactions spend more than our theoretical total of $100. If that’s the case, microtransactions might seem too valuable to let go of from a publisher’s perspective.
I’m surprised that I’m open to this idea. Weren’t SNES and N64 games like $50 at their time? I mean, that’s not cheap now, and I suddenly find myself much more sympathetic to my parents of the 90's remembering that they would basically laugh off most demands for video games.
I wouldn’t like it, but it’s not without the realm of possibility. Adjusting for inflation, there are a lot of games that sold in the $80+ dollar range, and if I’m not mistaken there were some early $70 N64 games that would be $106 today. I would be surprised if it happened anytime soon, though.
how long have games been at this price point vs inflation? $100 isn’t $100
Seriously, charge $80-$100 instead of $60, it’s stayed at $60 way too long and needs to catch up to inflation, as is these days I’m spending more on designer board games than AAA video games... board games...
He taunted and embarrassed Reggie in public more than once, I can’t imagine Nintendo would care to welcome with open arms that guy.
Me: [chanting] glavenus, glavenus!
Right? When our department started getting vocal about our poor compensation, we all just got canned... Said Bobby could take one million less a year, he’d hardly miss it, and we’d all get 50k raises... America man...
Well, doesn’t that just make your skin crawl.
Looks sweet, but why the dig at the movies? They were surprisingly decent and had a great feel. Better than lots of other attempts at comic-to-screen attempts.
But a small step in the right direction is still a good step!
Don’t jump to conclusions, it’s not a Sony fanboy thing. For example I was hard core 360 all the way in college, but with this gen MS has dropped the ball so hard, it’s very sad. And regardless of the metacritic scores, the point stands that MS just doesn’t have the quality of games that Sony does; calling out…
Much appreciated patch for just the proper widescreen support (1600x1200 sucks on modern 16:9 0r 16:10 displays)...though I will absolutely give Blizzard money for a remaster day one.
Which come to think of it, I’m fine with that. While a critic is one person who takes several factors into mind to determine quality and and overall score for a living, users are numerous. All we really need to know from them is if any given person like it or not, and form an average. 0 if you don’t like it, 1 if you…
