Dude, it was doing just fine on Saturday mornings and then the second season was moved to Fridays at 8 and then 8;30pm. If it had stayed as a Saturday morning series, where it did phenomenally well, you wouldn't have seen that huge drop in ratings.

Actually there's a scene cut out where you see that Kermit is really only going to the mansion to do maintenance. That's why you see him with the toolbox. He was actually living quite modestly.
