Things in that entire region were a bit more complicated than they were with Hitler and Germany. I think in the long run it probably worked out better than if we did destroy Japan letting China and Russia do whatever they wanted in the region.

The effects of terrain on historical warfare were always pretty nice to read. How the mongol Hordes, for example, had difficulties as they traveled westward once they started getting out of the plains of eastern Europe.

That's how most fields are in college. You learn the basics more or less in college and once you get a job is where you actually learn most the material. College is more for the expensive piece of paper the company requires for the job.
