The usual finale bump just makes Dexter's end even more stunning.

This was my biggest surprise, of the 20 or so titles I plugged in. I thought conventional wisdom was that season 3 was a major step down for VM — I'm really surprised that the average IMDb user felt otherwise.

Haha, you might very well be right! But yes, David Tennant speaks with a Scottish accent naturally, rather than the Estuary accent of the Tenth Doctor. I've never heard for sure why he or Davies or whoever chose to alter that for the show, but a popular fan theory is that the Doctor's accent shifts to be more

Martha/10 audios would be pretty great, as long as the writing is better than the animated special they did, The Infinite Quest. I love Martha and I love when Ten treats her well, but that episode was a real bore.

This is something good to point out — there aren't really any huge spoilers if you push forward with Torchwood, but Martha's appearances on Torchwood season 2 all take place after the end of Doctor Who season 3. (Jack disappearing at the end of the episode End of Days leads right into the last three episodes of Doctor

Fun (?) fact: as you might know, David Tennant's Doctor accent is not his natural way of speaking. He does a really good job with it, but the [u] vowel in words like "moon" gives him some trouble. Davies specifically named the rhino species that and gave Tennant the line "Judoon platoon upon the moon" as a prank.

Hang on — in what universe is Red Dragon a worse Hannibal Lecter movie than Hannibal Rising?

Martha Jones! One of my favorite companions, for sure. I'm looking forward to reading these reviews (and the comments below) as we work through this season. Martha's character arc of learning to stand up for herself in the face of the Doctor's unwillingness to treat her fairly as a companion is one of the most

Okay, sarge.

This is not related to this week's episode, but I got to see H. Jon Benjamin and Aisha Tyler at a live comedy show over the weekend. (Her standup was hilarious; his was rather less so.) One of the fun Archer tidbits they shared at a joint Q&A after their individual routines was that, due to the separate recording of

Torchwood, of course, being an anagram for Doctor Who — though I don't think that's ever actually mentioned on-screen. And then, yeah, Davies decided he liked how it sounded so he wrote it into the show(s).

How much of The Sarah Jane Adventures have you seen? The first season was pretty bad, but about halfway through season 2 (shortly after they replaced Maria with Rani) the show really kicked into high-gear and stayed that way for most of its run. If you don't like kids shows you still won't like it, but it hits its

Best comment on this whole page, right here.

Season 3 is really all about Martha's arc, and that confrontation with the Master is the perfect capstone to it. I mean, her recognizing that the Doctor was treating her poorly and walking away from all that is still super important and well-done, but laughing at the Master is her real climax as a companion.

Either I missed the end of your comment earlier or you added it in an edit, but the various "prequels" I list below function as lead-ins / teasers for particular episodes too. You're correct that they're never again made for a long string of episodes in a row the way the TARDISodes were, though — it's never really

Both spinoffs were run under Davies. Moffat was never in charge of either program, nor did he ever even write a script for either.

That's a fair point. I guess I just lump all those supplemental features into a single category.

Yeah, Time Crash would be the earliest, and that's right after the s3 finale. And in case you or anyone else is wondering, here's the mini-episodes that I generally recommend people watch:

Torchwood and The Sarah Jane Adventures both have episodes where they're as good as Doctor Who. Unfortunately, their clunkers are worse than the main show ever does, and they have them more often (Torchwood especially). I still think every Whovian should at least check them out, to see if they like the spinoffs… It's

I wouldn't say the TARDISodes were an experiment that never got repeated — we've actually had a fair bit of Doctor Who mini-episodes released online at this point. But a lot more thought (and budget) has typically gone into the stuff after the TARDISodes, so they don't feel as tonally mismatched with the main series
