Yeah I would have her get that checked out. You shouldn't be able to feel anything when you insert and it shouldn't hurt her either. The string is kind of wirey so it's possible that she just needs to get the string shortened. If they shorten the string it should fix the problem.

It sits in the cervix, there is a string from the cervix into the canal so that's the only thing that should be sticking out. It is very rare for it to shift but it can happen. I am very paranoid and get mine checked every year via ultrasound and it has not moved at all.
