It’s no coincidence that of my fairly extensive car ownership history, the e39 and OG Saab 9-3 were my two favorites.

I submit that in a GT such as this one, a good auto is a-ok.

Yeah, my e39 (530i) is easy to fix, too; but holy hell, I sure am doing it a lot.

Have...have you never owned a BMW before?

The e39 is deceptively small.

The Camaro does come with jorts and a pair of white New Balance sneakers in the trunk.

I dunno...I’ve still got a LATCH-based booster for YoungestSheetrock and when I want to take more than two coworkers out for lunch, getting that booster out and back in is a pain in the ass. Volvo’s solution is very elegant.

Nah, he haunts the Windsor plant these days.

It’s worth a front license plate to leave.

Agreed. In a fit of bad judgement, I traded my ‘98 S70 GLT for an e39.

The e39's a nice car to drive, but damn. I miss my Volvo.

It’s tough to enjoy while working through some serious engine design flaws with the 3.6 V6. It’ll be gone soon.

Yeah, but mine’s the 3.6 V6, which...yeah.

The Northstar finally got good, but the V really should have had an LS.

That’s the story of GM, though. Great ideas let down by poor execution and cost-cutting; both behind and ahead of the curve in many ways.

It’s why I really like my daily-driver 2006 STS, but at the same time can’t wait to get rid of it.

I miss Saab.

I dunno, New Accord or used Lexus GS?

I live in Cedar Rapids.

Sightings of cars in this condition in the city limits are rare, and more often than not they’ve got Benton County (or sometimes some obscure county I’ve never even heard of) plates on them. Once you get out to where my in-laws live in Boone County...well, then we’re talking more rolling wrecks

Ain’t nobody banging in the back of this car.

My boss is an expat Brit, and yes...they can out-redneck us.
