I also appreciate this as a black woman who doesn’t know how to swim. This was a big win for us out there. <3

My brother and I were talking after the race and decided this was probably the best race of the Olympics. Everything Ledecky and Phelps have done has been amazing but it was all kind of expected. Ryan Murphy has been spectacular to win two golds in the back events, and there have been a lot of shockers getting silver

I enjoy the rush of white males tripping over themselves to question your phrasing.

Everyone replying to shit on you because of your first sentence sucks. I took it to mean “I can’t totally relate to the “first black woman to win a gold medal in swimming” thing, but as a fellow swimmer, I appreciate it on an athletic level.”

This was the most shocking outcome of the Olympocs, and I also teared up at her victory and post-race speech on NBC. She's a lovely, bright young woman and what a milestone she's hit!

The entire race was so damn tight. It seemed like anyone from lanes 1-8 could’ve won it right up until the final 1/100th of a second. And even then! Not even that separated 1st and 2nd!

It took years to figure out what my issue was, but it turns out I was using more masculine stroke mechanics without the power and physicality to pull them off, so I just looked like a weird bobber taking too long to finish.

Heck yeah. So much so, that they’re only allowed to do it until the black marks on the floating lanes.

He entered thirteen hundredths of a second behind and handed off to the next leg a full second ahead. In a distance that is usually decided by those hundreths. The guys a swimming god.
