What, exactly, does “putting it into context” mean? Do you attach a 19th century Imperialist primer to the movie poster? Show a disclaimer in front of the movie that explains the social and geopolitical machinations of the day and how art and literature reflected it? That should keep the kids entertained.

You know you can make an adaptation of a work that removes all its questionable elements? It is done all the time. One of my favorite books growing up was The Lost Word by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. It is racist as hell, but most film adaptions have removed those parts. I know the one with Bob Hoskins even turned it on

Disney’s The Jungle Book was my favorite movie growing up. It’s about a child and a bear n shit like that. Bear necessities, elephants marching etc. I never felt like it taught me anything bad about anyone.

Yeah, that’s basically her “get out of jail free card” if she gets backed into a corner with her argument. “Despite everything I said, the book needs to be put into context.” It’s a lazy trick used in debating. It’s her responsibility to provide that context and make the case why her argument still stands, not that of

But that doesn’t explain why she called it “garbage.”

True, but do you say “lets toss all art, music and writing from that period into the dumpster?”

That’s kinda like saying 19th century Europe was racist as fuck and imperialist garbage.

I am not one who usually complains about being overly PC, because that charge is usually thrown out by conservatives and libertarians to shut down criticism of their own wacky ideas rather than engage in a discussion. But in this case you are being overly PC. Much of 19th and early 20th century literature is saturated

“Reminder: Rudyard Kipling Was a Racist Fuck and The Jungle Book Is Imperialist Garbage.”

I think companies really need to get out of the habit on firing people because the internet demands a sacrifice. It only encourages people to continue using toxic behaviors to push their agendas.

I love all of this. When my sister was horrified after I mentioned plucking my chin hairs, I said, “NBD. Tina Fey talked about waxing her beard once.” Female comedians who normalize normal bodily experiences make it so much easier for me, the lay person, to love and accept my normal bodily experiences. It's a big deal

As I understand it (which is not well, because all I have to go on is like one article and maybe a brief podcast) there are multiple hypotheses and perhaps multiple explanations. I could see both explanations being the result of how women are treated and dismissed in conversation, particularly in the workplace.

I want to know the rate of white men interrupting men of color. I’m sure it’s a problem, but I haven’t seen it discussed.

To be fair, I'm totally in the camp about feathered dinosaurs. I think the greatest scene in this would be if the kid from the original Jurassic Park was at the park, saw feathered velociraptors, and said "Hey wait a minute...they DO look like giant turkeys!! I WAS RIGHT."

they need to chillout, because this kind of fun and nostalgia tour de force is rare, also the opportunity to scream: RELEASE THE RAPTORS!!!! (and completely justified also).

"...A huge, smart, carnivorous dinosaur with thumbs sounds like a GREAT idea...." for a movie!

[H]e now lives on a perch on the filing cabinet next to Wildlife Learning Center founder Paul Hahn's desk.

If he doesn't have an iris or lens, is that the likely result of an injury? Or was he born that way, and he's been getting along being blind since birth? Either way, I feel the need to wear a toga and sacrifice a bull to this dude. You literally cannot be more Greek-Mythic than a blind owl with the cosmos in your eyes.

We are but motes in an owl's eyes.

Actually, what's important is that normal people can see a woman with a body shape that's just one example of zillions. Her breasts are uneven, like a goodly portion of women. She is quite small - not just in weight but in bone structure - and has been teased a lot for her smile, teeth, and breasts.
