It’s always monstrous and horrible when it’s Black people doing the killing, even when it’s in self-defense, isn’t it? We are always supposed to be “better” than our oppressors, and afford them a humanity and consideration that is never afforded us. And damn we usually do, so that’s what people are used to. The idea

I am so HAPPY to see our people tell more of our stories! And this one is one that needs to be told! This one tells of a man who decided to fight back! I don’t wanna hear shit from any black people saying “another slave movie” because it’s fucking not! Before anyone even thinks to open their mouth to say that shit,

Agree with you on all counts. I’m sick of slave narratives but there are some good and important stories that need to be told. Stories that aren’t about pacifying white people.

Ya know, I hate slave narrative movies as much as the next person, but there are some stories that need to be told and Nat Turner’s rebellion has always been one of those for me. Also, Harriet Tubman, but Viola’s got that one on lock, and I’m also excited for that. And I’m also soooo glad that a Black filmmaker is

We used to call that ditch weed in Nebraska in the 90's. Seems a much better choice.

It does feel creepily familiar, but just because one group of teens were wrongly convicted of rape in Central Park doesn’t mean a second group can’t be guilty.

It’s not up to you to have any feelings about it whatsoever.

I’m glad she educated herself on this. Being wrong once is never the problem; many people choose to stay wrong forever.

Srsly, is that really what passes for witty and Edgy these days?...

I mean they were European, but they were also Muslims. That one is true doesn’t make the other untrue or irrelevant.

I feel like the classiest and most parental thing for Rosie to do when asked about her daughter is to say that she loves her and that she has no further comment other then to ask that the media give her family and children privacy.

I don’t blame them for his addiction, I blame them for capitalizing on it for ratings.

Let’s stamp a big red NOPE on that. You probably know far more people than you realize who have been in treatment (1 in 4 will deal with issues within their lifetime). Try asking one of them whether their viewpoint is therefore worthless.

True, but, man, is her narrative coherent and believable.

But if they aren’t approved for a license-do we go with the dystopia of forced abortions or being babies being ripped away to be raised by rich infertile families that paid for a license (and weirdly when the demand for babies goes up, more poor people start failing the test)?

When I was in college in wrote a post about how every dance movie is exactly the same. Wish I could find it now...

Pretty sure that's not quite what she was getting at

MF never dated her, that was a stupid rumor. Please...we have Cosby, yall have Woody. Enough already. Check his dating stats, he dates women his age. May peace be upon him and his throughout this horrible tragedy.

I’ll catch it on Netflix, I won’t pay box office $$ for this. Did you see that casting call?

Interesting. Hip hop is so blatantly misogynistic - I mean it’s brutal when it comes to how women are viewed - but always seems to get a pass for whatever reason.
