Most of the time game developers will send early copies to everyone so that the reviews can be out at the same time as the game. They make a stipulation stating that if your review is not above a certain score your review cannot be published until after the positive reviews have been released.

It's salt in the wounds!!! I got my Wii when it first came out and there were only two games that I could stomach. Since I sold it, however, I keep seeing games that I'd love to play. "Curse you Nintendo!!!"
