Sony would be incredibly smart to price the Digital PS5 at $400, even if it means taking a larger loss than anticipated. It would eat directly into both Series S and Series X sales.
Except people are dumb. They are going to lay this thing on its side and stuff will be placed on top of it. Papers, books, ashtrays (gross), soda/beer cans, etc.
If Sony can offer the Digital PS5 at $399, it will have the potential to eat sales from both the Series S ($299) and Series X ($499).

I owned a Jetta VR6 that was from around the same time period and it was a nightmare. I had to have the transmission replaced with 34000 miles on it. I love VWs and currently drive an Audi S3, but I would pass on this.
