No, the power company could have done anything to assist the customer, like refer the family to resources. But it is the electric company’s problem. There are varying laws in every state banning electric companies from shutting off power for non-payment depending on the temperature, medical conditions, etc.

Commenting only to say that I was in Whole Foods this morning and it struck me how absurd it is the amount of single-use plastic that’s still hanging around grocery stores. There’s really no reason for the little plastic produce bags, or for clamshell packaging on things like tomatoes, etc.

Yeah, the difference between people with disabilities using plastic straws whenever they need them and everyone using plastic straws by default is probably something like 490 million straws per day in the U.S. alone.

It’s confusing that conservatives hate public education with a passion but are super okay with letting the teachers pack heat.

But our sudden preoccupation with plastics straws and ocean waste has me thinking: Wait, HUH?? What is happening?

Some of these children will NEVER see their parents again, as some of the parents were deported while their children were still being held. This is despicable. 

All I want to know is this: what kind of punishment does this judge/court have authority to administer to the administration for missing the deadline, and exactly what are the odds that the adminiatration will accept it?

Correct, although if you’re in the business of maintaining wide-eyed fear of Hispanics among rural whites, kidnapping a bunch of Hispanic kids, dumping them into the system until they turn 18 and then tossing them onto the streets to join/form criminal gangs is a pretty effective if morally repugnant way to do it.
