Well, whether it was how women gained office or not, political office in the US is not passed on to heirs on death. It was never right. Add to that, women can run on their own now and it’s just extra bad. What makes it worse than the dynastic Bushes and Clintons is that the family members had their own careers, ran

I know what you’re saying, but that is one fucked-up, and I think un-American, tradition.

I do think that the US’s poor maternal health results are linked to the anti-choice culture we have. Everyone is thinking about saving the baby first, and what the mother wants or needs doesn’t matter. That must bleed over into maternal care. We need to start prioritizing women and our needs in maternal health.

I remember in the early aughts when wide-legged yoga pants were the thing. They were not great for inverted poses because they would fall up your legs, which was distracting. I like the tight type better for that reason. I still have one of the old type kicking around for eating ice cream and watching RuPaul Drag

I have never read that reason for the 2nd amendment before, so I don’t know, but it does sound like Jefferson. I know their were other Enlightenment influenced thinkers around that time, like Mary Wollstonecraft, who thought standing armies were a threat to citizens’ freedom. So, maybe!?

The third amendment is a good example of how the stuff the founding fathers were concerned about isn’t necessarily the same today. I mean, I am glad that the military can’t force me to have soldiers in my home, though, so I’m fine leaving it in. It’s not hurting anything.

What also kills me is the whole “this is a second amendment right and we can’t infringe it!” Those assholes try every day to infringe on voting rights and privacy rights.

I was in the tenth grade when Columbine happened. If you had told me then that Columbine would happen again, and again, and again, not just in schools but movies theaters, workplaces, concerts, all across the country, for the next twenty years, I would never have believed you. Yet, here we are. I will be there on

Apparently the white supremacist organization he’s been hanging out with first said he was a member, then that he was not, because they had another member of the same name. I’m guessing they don’t want anyone to start looking at white supremacy as a place to lay the blame for this. I really hope the FBI and local

Who are they supposed to call and what can they report him for? Being kind of creepy? Getting expelled? Having mental health issues? Having lots of books about guns and wanting to own them? The one online comment that might be his about a school shooting was reported to the FBI.

My husband refuses to watch any political satire. He think she it just makes terrible things more palatable and is ineffective at bringing about real change. I have to admit, at this point I mostly agree with him. It’s good for a laugh sometimes but I can’t laugh at any of this right now. It’s not funny.

Creating a huge beauraucracy especially designed to make life harder for poor folks is a GOP core value.

Is it though, at it’s center? As a legal aid attorney who works with welfare recipients, I see two problems with SNAP.

Oh, she’s terrible, and this is a pretty blatant attempt to re-brand herself that shows that she has basically no moral compass or scruples. However, I do find it interesting that she is the first to publicly turn on Trump without the pressure of a threatened indictment. I think she know shit is really bad, and she is

I see Klimt in the treatment of her gown and the contrast from flat ground to her more realistic face and arms. I think it’s a wonderful portrait.

“One Bad apple spoils the lot” is the expression, and I can’t believe no one has used it as a retort to that bullshit excuse.

It explains so many of the conversations I see in the comments.

A hospital in my area set up an ED tent in their parking lot to triage the number of folks coming in with flu emergencies. This is an enormous hospital, one of those ones that spans blocks. My husband and I both had the flu this year (he got the shot early, I am getting it next week) and it was so miserable. I regret

I actually feel bad for the Boy Scouts trying to sell that sad, sad popcorn.

Once I saw a couple Girl Scouts and a mom pull into a Wawa parking lot and just open a trunk full of cookies. Wawa, for those not in the Philly area, is famous for their free ATMs. I swear every person going into that Wawa got put some cash and bought some cookies. There was a line at the ATM.
