“Then, he dapped up his wife in public”
Why wouldn’t they consider that the best possible outcome, though? Ollie North seems to have done just fine for himself in the years since Iran-Contra, and everyone else involved continued business as usual. What’s not to like about that setup?
Statistically, fewer teens are working than used to, and one of the reasons is displacement by all of us who fell off the career ladder during the recession. Other reasons include workplaces preferring older workers (younger workers can’t do certain jobs and have additional regulations on their hours vs oldsters), and…
And here we see the common American Fedora Shitbird, avis cacatolimfedorus Americanus, in its native habitat. Scientists have not yet determined the reason for their most striking behavior: rolling in their own filth and then creating giant, savage flocks that ransack stockpiles of Red Bull and Cheetoes while emitting…
That was my first reaction to reading this story. I am still braced for one of these stories pull a Rolling Stone. The comments have gotten me back to my usual “Believe the victim” stance (ILU, Jezzies!) Fox helped convince me her story is true by seeding the story that it was consensual, because that’s rape denial…
I like Wilmore’s podcast. I hope he returns to TV at some point if that what he wants to do, but I like the slower, looser vibe of the cast.
My favorite bit: “I didn’t realise it was an offence. There are no signs saying no swimming - you’re just expected not to.”
Pod Save the People talked about this a few eps ago, see the “On Their Shoulders” cast. One thing that stuck with me is that we talk about empathy and treatment, but actual implementations thus far have been quite punitive (and therefore similar to the way crack was handled). It’s an odd dissonance.
Agreed; getting the blood results on the truck driver was an insurance policy for the officers involved in the chase. Depending on how things fell out for themselves in the inquiry regarding the chase, they could either throw him under the bus or earn plaudits for “protecting” him.
So I have acquired <= this much => sympathy for people confused by the status of PR. I was using some software at work the other day where I had to put in an address in Puerto Rico. Cool! It started with Country. USA, duh! Street address, then state/province. PR wasn’t an option. LOLWUT. I had to go back and select PR…
Texas should not receive one penny of federal aid. If they require replacement bootstraps they will have to rely on private charity. They are wealthy, populous, and routinely elect a gaggle of politicians who shit on basic human decency. They can reap what they’ve sown, for once.
Oh god, the kindle lending library offered me one of those to read for free. It was TURRRRBLE. I bought 2 more.
But the monster was the sympathetic character in Frankenstein. New metaphor needed!
Since the fracas is in the public sphere there is a performance front and a personal front. This is the public performance; I hope he is working on the private, personal apology too. I mean, I hope. I also hope we don’t go to war in the next week.
At a guess: His lawyer.
“This is at least a somewhat well worded email”
Curve would like a word, too.
No white tears here; this sounds fascinating.
“They know he’s racist, right?”
