I left my 3G without a case because of the round mental back. I never felt putting it down on the table was a issue. But with the flat glass back of the 4 and 4S i definitely at least get a back case for those. When i put it down the flat back always seems to slam down, its just hard to gently do that. Hi have to agree here. I like Wilco, I like Popeye, so I was expecting to love the video. But as you said, the animation looks half assed and it really just made no sense at all. And Popeye should not have given up so easily at the end there.
