Maybe if you get a bare bone GTI with the performance pack you’re getting more of your money’s worth, but if you are comparing fully load GTI to a fully loaded Golf R, the price isn’t that far off. And you get AWD with 70 more horsepower. That’s quite a bit of extra performance so I wouldn’t call it hair splitting.…

I think this is exactly hot hatch. Think GTI, Focus ST, Fiesta ST, etc. Actually that would put it a little above hot hatch and closer, but still a ways off from hyper hatch (Golf R, Audi RS3, Focus RS, TypeR).

Or you could pick up a Golf R and not have to rid yourself of it when you get a family (possibly, depending on your financial status later down the road).
