Thanks! Although I'm not sure if you mean Philips in general or my family's contribution. But I guess Philips was one of the most influential electronics companies of the twentieth century, with (co-) inventing the lightbulb, the CD, the DVD and a lot of other stuff. I don't want to downplay my brothers efforts, but

My dad designed the machines that make transistors, my brother worked as a physicist at the lighting division (Philips also perfected the lightbulb after Edison invented it) and I don't actually know what my grandpa did.

I don't think so. It is the hometown of the Philips electronics company, inventor of the CD and more importantly, the CDi interactive entertainment system. And the former employer of my brother, my dad and my grandfather.

He has even threatened to come live in the Netherlands. Eindhoven of all places.

Now I want to know who it is!

For me seitan tastes like it's in the food equivalent of the uncanny valley.
I'd much rather have a chickpea burger, because that's basically just falafel. And then I'd rather have just falafel, because I don't like food that pretends to be other food.

Yes.

I'm absolutely not dissing this idea and I'm far from a vegetarian myself, but reducing the amount of meat in a burger by 25% is not going to solve the worlds problems. Every bit helps I suppose.

If it's any comfort, I know many weirdos like you. I don't really understand it, but you are far from alone in this.
Then again, soft meat products like spam, paté or liverwurst make me literally gag, so I do get disliking food based on mostly texture.

That is why in Dutch we call it a blokfluit (block flute). Why the hell is it called a recorder in English? It doesn't record anything. And it shouldn't be recorded either.

I haven't come across anything that open. But in Beijing I've stayed in a very nice room, where all of the bathroom walls were glass. But they had remote controlled blinders, so you had control of the privacy-level. I really liked that, felt very high end (and probably was, but I wasn't paying).

If Dutch is your first language, you'd think a cafe is a place to get a beer. And a coffeeshop a place to get weed.
You probably can get coffee at both, but if you specifically want good coffee, you look for a koffietentje.

Sounds weird to me. But I have to say I'm really enjoying this Langdon Alger Algae Oolong tea.

With all the complaining Disqus generally instills, that doesn't bode well.

Actually, it's a follow-up to my opera "Carmen is a bitch".

I'm doing a gender swapped Hamlet. The twist? All the actors are dogs.

I do not believe you. But I would love you to prove me wrong.

What am I missing about Bamford? I was really looking forward to watching her latest special. But I couldn't get into it and had to turn it of after about 25 minutes.
I know this is an unanswerable question. But it's a bit weird to hear from MANY people whose comedic sensibilities seem to align with mine that it's a

Only podcast I heard her on was Mark Maron's. That interview suggested she has a really intense personality and is really ambitious and might have some anger issues. So a great match for Maron, I enjoyed the interview a lot.

On the one hand, what I've seen of Schlesingers comedy (two or three specials) seems to fall pretty clearly in the kind of shtick she criticizes. On the other hand, she is a lot better than most at it and she is great at the physical comedy she uses to accentuate the bits.
