They did succeed. But like a hundred other Kickstarter campaigns they didn’t hit their stretch goals so they opened up options for continued funding if people would like to give it.

Money doesn’t magically fall out of their asses, regardless of talent or past success. Anything they made before was paid for by someone, and/or used profits from previous work. This time they chose to skip over a step and have the consumers invest directly, no different than what plenty of other crowdfunding projects
