We're talking game development though. It's certainly not an industry limited to computer programming or IT work. Are you going to tell me that women aren't interested in being writers or artists? Games certainly need both.

Shouldn't you want to know why they don't want to work in the industry? It seems silly to just leave it at, "well they probably don't want to."
I think it's two fold. 1) Working for this industry kind of sucks a lot of the time. Long hours, low pay and your job is not very secure a lot of the time. 2) Working as a minority in a industry dominated by white men kind of sucks as well.
Or (and this is a crazy one here so buckle up for crazy-town) perhaps the industry chould present itself as more appealing to women which will, in turn, entice the highly qualified ones to apply.
Boom! You increase interest in your business AND get more qualified people applying. Two birds one stone. :D
From my experience going through video game related schooling, the design and artistic side are seeing an increase in female students. I went from a program that had 1/5th girls, to one that had 1/3rd. But with programming, there are so few female programmers. I know of 2.
