You don't need a remake, you just need to transfer your Hoenn pokemon from R/S to D/P, and then once more to B/W. My lvl 100 Blaziken from my Sapphire game is in my White 2 version currently, ready to go on to x/y.

It can't evolve, it's an alternate form that the Mewtwo can switch back and forth between and alternate forms have been around since gen 3. There are even rumors that these particular new forms are only accessible in battle and are not permanent.
That makes sense, though a lot of the younger gamers don't usually care as much what they did or didn't miss, and will play a game for what it is even if they didn't get to experience the first few iterations of the series. As for the older ones who quit half way in, quitting at all was really their own choice.

They didn't ruin Mewtwo's character at all, it doesn't even appear in the new movie. The Mewtwo that appears in that movie is an entirely different being, and M1 Mewtwo has no relation to it. With that said, you essentially got your wish from your first paragraph.
