This so clearly affects many people negatively it’s hard not to imagine sabotage in the future.

Sounds like these ladies need to bootstrap it and learn to do their own hair and makeup. Like us plebes do.

The very name “Biggest Loser” is degrading. Yes, sure we all get the pun, but the first impression is exactly this.

Just to say — that’s great and congrats. My SIL has done this (she took up running, found a club, made some changes to her diet) and I’m so impressed. When she first started, I would roll my eyes at her posting on Facebook about all her runs but at some point I realized I was being an asshole because she deserves

You are on the right path, though. Yes it sucks to feel like you’ve got more to go, but you’ve managed to lose 20 lbs in a manner that keeps your metabolism and is sustainable. Be proud of yourself!

I’ve been slowly losing weight making small diet changes and doing exercise. I think doing it that way is okay. I still feel good and not like I'm starving.

Also, a quick way to badly disordered eating.

It seems, at least from my experience as someone who’s lost weight, and anecdotally that a slow steady loss is much more sustainable. Lifestyle changes take a loooong time to settle in.

Worst Case Scenario: they’ll still have an easier time than folks with persistent weight problems, but with the added bonus of being able to say, “I did it and it’s not that hard!”

BL is such crap. No reputable weight loss program would advocate for a more than a 2 lb loss per week after the first couple weeks. Bodies need time adjust.

Anything too quick or stressful so often mucks things up.

Human’s are often delicate beasts underneath it all.

My personal trainer did that actually - a few times even to see which combination of diet and exercise worked best. I suspect that because he never stayed fat for very long and was physically active all his life it wouldn’t be quite as drastic in his situation as the Biggest Losers competitors.

Of course the type of weight loss depicted on that show is NOT healthy. To maintain weight loss, you need a total change of lifestyle and eating habits but you also have to do it progressively. And it has to be sustainable. That show makes a humiliating freak show out of these poor people and of course they’re going

I have always had an issue with this show. I hate the idea of such a personal thing like weight being turned into a game. Not only that but it never seemed particularly healthy to me. Losing that much weight that fast seems like a bad idea.

The weight loss was too fast and their diet was probably too extreme as well (I assume they had to lose hundreds of pounds in just a couple of months because it’s being taped on a tight schedule, which is insane.) The best way to lose weight is the old-fashioned way, aerobic exercise three to four times a week

There’s new show where fitness professional gain weight and then take it off, so that they can “come from a place of understanding”. I’d be very curious to see if their metabolism resets.
