Like you said, that's anecdotal. Genetics play a factor in dental caries. I take good care of my teeth, floss, brush, use mouthwash, etc. I had 4 cavities filled in October. Also, some people lack proper enamel, meaning that cavities are easier to get.

...yes, but she was 3. Adult teeth don't grow out until around age 6. So she would be missing teeth that she might have needed for at least 3 years. Also, I'm not sure about this particular practice, but she might have needed sedation for an extraction too, because that's still considered a surgery.

Totally possible. It could be genetic too. She might not have had enamel on all of her teeth. There are a lot of factors that could cause dental caries at a young age :\

Well the thing that I see different between your story and this girl's supposed need for root canals is that you didn't need a root canal because your the teeth without enamel weren't decayed. Oh, of course! It's absurd that this dentist wanted to do all 4 root canals at once. That makes me sick to my stomach. Breaking it down would have been a better option, assuming that the child did actually need all of that work done. This is super sad :(

I don't know if this was a scam or not, but there's really no other option if tooth decay has gotten bad enough to need a root canal. Except to pull the teeth, but then her adult teeth wouldn't grow out for another few years.
