Seyfried’s performance alone justifies the show’s existence. Just absolutely crushed it. She deserves all the awards.

I love Mads Mikkelsen and would never complain about his inclusion in anything, but I still don’t really understand why they couldn’t just change him back into Colin Farrell. Wouldn’t that have made more story sense than him turning suddenly into a completely different man with a thick eastern European accent?
These films are completely unnecessary, but they still could have been, y’know... good. The first one was mostly fine, but they made the terrible mistake of replacing Colin Farrell with Johnny Depp at the end. Why not just use Colin Farrell? I get that Grindelwald was in disguise, etc, but throwing Depp into the mix…
I enjoyed the first one, though I’m hazy on a lot of the details now.
I am seeing so many bad reviews over the lack of heat that I hope someone takes notes and makes s3 return to the tension-filled, bodice-ripping boneathon. MORE BONING I SAY
While I think overall this is a valid criticism and I do think this certainly applies to Super Pumped where it does juggle more about who Travis is. However, I would argue The Dropout is absolutely brutal towards Holmes from the very first episode. Even to the degree that in their version they present it ultimately…
i think ‘the dropout’ is shaping up to be an excellent season of tv but the fact that all 3 of these are running concurrently is so funny.
I think the Anthony problem stems from the source material - he’s just kind of a jerk, and his particular source of angst is oddly childish, and the only thing he does to really redeem himself is fall in love with Kate. That counts a little, because she is so cool, but it never seemed like enough.
Also, in season 1 the POC characters I don’t think ever mention or acknowledge that they’re Black.
I’m sorry but I have a really hard time believing that Agnes, of all people, would be at all comfortable keeping on a maid that has a habit of reading other people’s private correspondence. I understand she doesn’t want to train a new maid at her age and the show needs Peggy to return to her family but COME ON.
That baby is DEFINITELY alive and whisked away to somewhere else by mean old Poppa Scott, right? There’s a reason Raikes hasn’t been able to track down the midwife, and that reason is that she was paid very well to not be findable, lest she spill those beans.
I read the book, saw the doc and ingested so much of this story already that I should be tired of it by now. But the cast is great and it’s very entertaining. But it’s ultimately Amanda Seyfried’s performance that makes it compelling. She looks like a fashion model and has been in so many just O.K. vehicles that it…
What are you talking about? They talk about growing up together with their brother. They are most definitely sisters.
I don’t think it was Turner who sent the note to Agnes. I think it was *Church*.
I made an account to say I love Peggy Scott’s character...Granted, I’ve lurked on AV Club for a few years now, but I felt it was finally time to step into the chat, especially to say that. I know it was a few episodes ago, but that episode got the tears coming down when her story was accepted into that newspaper on…
I also think it was a nine-month sojourn, and I’m guessing that’s why she dislikes her father for making her give it away.
Oh nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo Racism Maid’s mom is mean to her a boo hoo hoo hoo.
I’m sticking with my working theory that back when Fellowes intended this as a Downton prequel, the downstairs part of the show was likely a much bigger focus. Then along the way to the current show, and thanks in part to some other producers getting involved, the focus shifted, not least to Peggy Scott and her…
It’s emblematic of the old saying about the difference in racism between the North and the South - “in the North, they don’t mind how big you get as long as you don’t get too close, in the South they don’t care how close you get as long as you don’t get too big.” Agnes is perfectly fine with Peggy succeeding…
This show continues to generate incredibly mixed feelings in me.
