What’s extra sad is that I saw many, many interesting ideas about how to handle the character floating around on social media. Kondabolu himself didn’t even want to kill off Apu, if I remember correctly.

I can sympathize. My friend and I were just talking about this earlier tonight. She met her husband by treating online dating like a job and going on a date every week until she found a guy she liked. But it’s been nearly two months since my ex and I broke up, and I’ve been on just one sort of “fake” date. It’s hard.…
I felt she was miscast in this role. The movie still worked, probably because she was in a coma for much of it, but she was much less engaging than a lot of the supporting characters.
Ugh. Just reading the trial recaps linked here, I’m haunted by the fact that another woman walked in on this, saw multiple guys having sex with a young women, wasn’t clear on whether it was consensual or not, but then she walked away anyway.
I’ve been trying to decide how I feel about the fact that there are at least 3-4 new shows this year that are playing on the “gender nonconforming kid” storyline. This comment about sums it up.
Like father, like son...
Could be a mock execution setup. I can see them doing that as a way to terrorize handmaids and get them back into line.
Yeah, it looks like they were charging these fathers with child endangerment, which is bad enough, but you do wonder why they aren’t hitting them with trafficking charges as well.
Beyonce strikes me as super private
I have a bit of a problem with this:
Karen McDougal says she slept with him around the same time and heard the same things: Melania has her own room, Melania likes her space, etc.
This is going on in so-called “Christian” communities, too. Here’s a recent story from the Kansas City Star about parents who are trafficking their underage, pregnant daughters to Missouri so they can take advantage of lax child marriage laws. What these cases have in common are that: 1) They involve statutory rape,…
Gotcha. That’s a totally squirrely way to live, though, and it’s ultimately not sustainable for them either. At a certain age, things are just probably going to happen that make it impractical for them to live as nomads.
Why are your parents spending that much time crashing with you? It sounds like they’re trying to get something for nothing from you—i.e., a low-cost vacation or a chance to reduce their own cost of living a bit by sponging off your heat/electricity/etc. I think it’s totally fair to tell them you don’t have the space…
I’m a Mac user and for a while I couldn’t post. My posts would just appear to hang and never go through. I updated my OS at the suggestion of someone here, and it seems to have fixed the problem but only on the Chrome browser.
I think the problem is using “white feminism” and “liberal feminism” interchangeably. This obtuse thinking of, “why not just let the justice system handle sexual assault” is liberal feminism— it’s assuming that we can create gender equality by just adding women into the institutions that we have, without recognizing…
I’m an academic, so I’m lucky to be in a field where an increasing number of employers are also offering paid parental leave to men. That said, I went to conference last fall where a male colleague openly bragged about how he used his paternity leave time to finish a book he was working on. It was infuriating.
I absolutely endorse going to Ikea for office furniture. Why do these people think they’re too good for a Skogsta?
I’m just going off what we know about Daddy Trump, but why have so many women slept with him? He puts the women he’s cheating with up in fancy hotels and restaurants, he’s married a couple of them (giving them access to considerable wealth), and at least some of those who he hasn’t stayed with, he’s given them a nice…
without the incentive of money or raising one’s tabloid profile, and yet here we are.
