The issue is that the game is a decade old and people have gotten tired of the mmo model. WoW’s history follows any other games history where as time goes on, the playerbase dwindles.

Microtransactions generate more income at a faster rate. Subs generate a smaller but more reliable income over a longer period. If Blizzard didn’t care about their product, they would just go F2P with microtransactions. One is a short term cashgrab, the other is a longterm investment.
