Yeah dude, that’s a really weird and violent fantasy. I mean, you basically just described Alamo Drafthouse but without good beer or popcorn and instead heaps of disproportionate violence.

I almost never play games anymore (consequently why I’ve stopped posting in these weekly threads as often *sad emoji*) but when I do it’s for a quick round or two of Apex before bed. The game’s fanbase is currently in a civil war between those who feel it’s dying because there aren’t enough updates and those who say…
Tim, I’m only 5 minutes into the video but I just want to say
I like this essay. I remember as a kid I would purposefully set the controller on a table and do nothing to see if the game had an idle animation. Personal favorite is always gonna be Mario 64 where Mario falls asleep and starts mumbling various types of pasta.
I don’t think any of Danny McBride’s shows want you to find him charming and sympathetic. More ‘pathetic’ and ‘hilariously revolting’ really.
I’m late to this but I just wanted to say that this video series is probably one of my favorite pieces of video game writing*, period. It’s entertaining, insightful and shows a deep appreciation for everything it covers. I honestly might go back and do a whole re-watch sometime as the amount of information given is…
This game probably synced up both with a lot of kids’ puberty and recent appreciation for FFX so yeah. They knew what they were doing.
Man everything is 2-steps removed! I’ve played Aquaria because it’s other creator Derek Yu, created my favorite game of all time, Spelunky.
I’ll be honest with you man, if you skip the Chalice Dungeons... you won’t miss much. Though if you are like me when I finished the game, you are probably just jonesing for more of that sweet sweet aggressive combat.
So I’ve been pretty slammed with work even having to do some travel for it so I have not been gaming much but I got back Thursday night and instead of jumping straight into Apex which is my norm now, I decided to peruse my back catalogue for something new. I found Night in the Woods and decided to give that a try. I…
Hahaha that’s quite a journey you’ve had to discover the world of Pocket Monsters. I’m basically inverse of you. I was 10 in 98 when Red/Blue came out and hoovered that game up like it was my job, even illicitly smuggling it into my sleepaway church camp. Though every iteration after was diminishing returns and I…
I’ve been playing Baba is You in small bursts each day as a sort of Sudoku-esque way to unwind but much like crosswords or any other puzzle you run into that brain cracking feeling of frustration when you feel like you’ve tried every possible answer and none of them work. Baba is You is fun but hot damn, Baba is…
I like this video, and I also like the creepy no-lip doll talking the gang from FROM always employs and that broke my brain too.
Love this guy’s stuff. He’s not exactly reinventing the wheel in terms of Western-scores but he stretches everything out and pulling it to it’s breaking point which gives it a whole other sound. It’s very meditative and really makes the dinking around in RDR2 so much fun.
After the first few bosses when you get your really standard metroidvania abilities like wall jump and dash the game really opens up. It’s a gorgeous treat (that was made by just 3 australian guys which still blows me away).
I love the hell out of Nier: Automata but it definitely suffers from having a reputation that precedes it as “the mind-blowing game that will change how you see games”. That reputation makes you play the first 10 or so hours going “when is it going to blow my mind?” It creates an air of expectation for that world…
I really enjoyed Dark Souls III and remember how nice it was to see the Souls world rendered in that high of fidelity but it left the least impression on me of the series. Obviously Souls 1 was my introduction so it left a big mark, and Souls II is flawed but I was still so high on the Souls series I loved the hell…
I’ve started Baba and buddy, it’s great. I pointed to the Witness in my post about it this week but they’re doing different tweaks on a similar beat. Witness Presents you with clear rules and then provides subtle twists (tho some are massive twists) on them where as Baba is You asks you to forget every rule you’ve…
I have not played DMC5 yet but am red-orb-crushingly excited too. I have watched that Van cutscene multiple times though because of how amazing it is. Very happy to see it’s inspired by the best/goofiest live action inspo scene imaginable.
I bought a game full-price on a whim after viewing a trailer and reading a stellar review and that game is Baba is You and it is 100% my jam. I have still been spending most of my time in the world of Apex Legends, mildly contributing to my squad’s wins and vastly contributing to their losses. Shooty games rule,…
