Every time you rent or borrow a car the first thing you should do is pull out your phone and walk around and through the car videoing all sides, front, back, under the seats, trunk, glovebox, etc while vocally drawing attention to any existing damages or trash that you might get blamed for.

Oh I’ve had plenty of “wouldn’t start” situations. No matter how cool your bike looks you never look cool pushing it, but forgetting to keep the shiny side up was way more embarrassing.

I believe this is the biggest problem. A job like that just has to be mentally scarring and the fact that they don’t have mandatory counseling is disturbing. We did this with our recent car purchases. We let them give us a quote on the old cars but it wasn’t worth it. It’s a hassle to sell it yourself but we made $2K more on each one.
