Try inputting a typical screen size like 1024 for width, and 768 for height, save the changes, then take a video capture. VLC might…
@chris0089: Under the videos settings, there's a couple boxes that let you set the height and width of the screenshot. You have to select the "All" options view instead of "Simple" to get at it though.
