I think it’s more than just partner options - it’s fewer options in general. There’s not really a career path or corporate ladder to climb, so getting married and having kids is kind of how you adult in a small town.

This was my thinking. If you’ve already got 3 kids by the time your 25, it seems like something more permanent would make sense. One analysis of the study pointed out that they put IUDs and sterilization in the same category and I’d love to see that breakdown as well.
