I’m glad to read this. I want to give my daughter a magazine subscription for her 8th birthday next month and have just about settled on American Girl. We have the first changing-body book already. So far, I’ve been very impressed with their publications. They’re good at keeping things age appropriate.

My kids (ages 5 and 7) get a TV day in those circumstances. I’ve also been known to force them to stay outside for a while, stopping just short of actually locking them out (but I have a fully fenced backyard).
