I just added Friday morning movies to my mental list of things to do once the kids are all in school next year. It's brilliant.

My husband will be like, “whoa! that’s a nasty bruise. Where’d you get it?” And I’m just thinking or saying, “um, somewhere? I don’t know. I must have bumped into something?” It’s a stupidly common conversation in our house.
I have a party Saturday night. I don’t think there’s any way to get a box of them without spending a small fortune. Pondering whether it’s worth it...
I didn’t click to the Trib article so didn’t realize it was outside of Salt Lake area. I grew up near carbon county. This won’t get him voted out. This could get him elected mayor or something if he wants it.
It’s not so simple. In Utah, judges are appointed, but can be voted out of office. The default is to keep a judge unless there are enough “no” votes. So unless somebody in Utah actively campaigns (a year from now!) for people to pay attention and mark no, then he’ll probably stick around. Judges do get voted out, but…
I actually kind of miss polling stations. I like taking my daughters with me to show them how it works. My last election before moving to WA, my oldest was in kindergarten and we had a conversation about women’s suffrage while walking to our polling location. I have a picture from 2012 of the 3 of them sitting on our…
I think it’s heartbreaking, too. I feel bad for these kids. They’re already being told one parent is doomed to eternal darkness and now they’re being told they can’t be baptized, thus condemning themselves to eternal darkness.
I read the headline and my first thought was, “must be Mormon.” After reading the article, I’m thinking his doomsday stash is winning a few votes. There are many Utahns who buy into the whole apocalypse thing and then take it straight on to crazy town. He fits right in.
Yeah. Wine was an easy thing for me (maybe because I was single and childless). Wearing a strapless dress is scary and confusing. Fucked. Up.
It’s already happening, at least according to Facebook posts. A baptism scheduled for tomorrow was cancelled because one of the divorced parents is living in a homosexual relationship. He’d given his permission for the kid to be baptized, but nope. Now some poor 8 yr old kid gets to be the only one in his social group…
Commiserating with too many years spent in Mormonism (I was 27 when I left). Thirteen years later, I still struggle with how to reconcile things I was taught with how people in the real world think (primarily related to sex and modesty, but that’s to be expected). I still admire the good they can do while condemning…
The old guys in charge are doubling down. Most gen x and younger Mormons are more accepting and “live and let live” in their viewpoints. Eventually, official policy will catch up, but there probably won’t be much of a membership left.
It’s not an actual choice (which I know you know). It’s “you’ll be baptized when you’re 8. You’ll be baptized when you’re 8.” Then as your 8th birthday approaches, it’s “you can choose not to be baptized, if you want. But all of your friends are doing it. Your older siblings did it at 8. We’ve always told you this is…
Do you live in Seattle? This is the first year I’ve cared about the school board elections (due in part to the fact that my oldest is in second grade so school boards haven't affected me much until recently). It shouldn’t take a teacher strike for people to care, but here we are.
Is no one else bothered by the fact that a 2 yr old has had so many strangers shoving cameras in her face that she knows how to say, “I said ‘no pictures.’” I means, seriously? Leave the poor kid alone.
I haven’t had breakfast yet and I’m trying to figure out if I have all the ingredients/acceptable substitutions.
I serve it that way to my children. They’re not allowed to put milk in their bowls (because I was tired of dumping soggy cereal).
Just googled it and it looks like it closed a few years ago. :(
Wait...where? I’m relatively new to Seattle and would like to know more about these places.
Tim Eyman. Grrrr. I’ve only lived in Washington for 1.5 years (missed the gay marriage and pot votes) and even I know that guy’s a scourge.
