They're not trapped in an MMO, though. They're in a real world which is close to but not exactly like the game they had been playing. As for the "game rules", the axioms and world laws that the world they're in operate on are revealed to actually be changing.

Not just that, there's some rather interesting aspects to overthink about, such as how a society starts out from a virtually blank slate. The entire formation of the Akihabara Round Table wouldn't sound out of place in a political science class.

I do feel kind of outdated when my favorite series of all time is Planetes. It's not all that old, but most people now have never even heard of it. Also, I prefer pre-90s manga to anime, mostly thanks to the incessant use of recycled animation. I would say 1/10 of the entire animated series like Fisherman Sanpei

A lot do come off that way. I am a casual anime watcher, I enjoy it. But any time I go to an organized anime event or any anime event at conventions, man so many people get all snobby when they find out I haven't seen *this* or *that* or that I don't spend hours and hours a day watching anime.
