Are you seriously telling me the law in some states is “allow faster drivers past” not “keep right unless overtaking”? That seems mad. And also guaranteed to encourage speeding.

In my commuter’s experience, people still get mad even when you are passing someone @ >10+mph in the left lane, with the intent to move back over once the passing is complete.

His argument is one of the only ones here that is taking the holistic view. He’s not trolling he’s zooming out. The problem with traffic law is that people drive cars. Understand people, understand traffic.

You have my star. The problem with the left lane argument is that nobody is ever moving fast enough when passing. It’s a minefield of relativism, psychological projection, stereotyping, conflicting law, culture wars, and on and on.

So is speeding dude.

It’s only a source of revenue because people are dumb enough to break the posted law.

And there it is. The assumption the person in the left lane MUST be in the wrong, somehow, because why aren’t they respecting the number one road rule? You get to go first.

Let’s talk about the situation where the “left land hog” IS passing traffic on the right, but just not fast enough for the even hoggier left land hog behind them.
