Glad to meet someone with some sense and humility about their abilities. I'm convinced that so many don't want to be seen as "less manly" or "less of a driver" because god forbid their car actually has a potentially life-saving feature. Thanks for the interesting points, I agree 100%.

TCS...yes...traction control. Thought I was clear on that.

Ah, the "smart, alert people never have anything go wrong and people who have accidents have only themselves to blame" strategy.

Rain? Suspension decompression coming out of a dip? Gravel or sand?

And there should never be a situation where you need airbags or ABS...but we still have them to keep people from killing themselves when events that fall in the tail of the standard normal curve happen...not a good argument.

Like most things, most traction control systems are designed for the average idiot to not be able to kill themselves no matter what they do with the steering wheel/pedals. Obviously, not aimed at you.

I cannot believe that ABS didn't make the list. This is widely taken for granted.

Several of these could also be qualified as "Useful pieces of technology that purists still complain about".

So we should just roll over and let the nice dealership man charge us whatever he wants for the car? This is a business transaction. The entire dealership experience is designed to screw you out of as much money as possible, point blank, full stop. If you don't arm yourself with as much knowledge as you can then

No. Forget this noise. It is NOT my fault NOR my problem if the survey process is horribly broken.

This scoring system is really screwed up. I, along with many other people that I know, do not believe in a 'perfect' score. I don't believe that there is a woman out there that would score 10/10. Everyone/everything is flawed in some way shape or form. I bought a car in February from a dealership I got fired from when

That is exactly how he should act. Welcome to sales.

Car buying is about negotiations...and negotiations are all about leverage. For many years the dealerships held all the leverage, they knew the margins, they played the tricks to take as much money from you as possible. If the auto-industry doesn't like this system they can change it. Sell items direct without

Anytime I hear a journalist mention "German engineering..." I translate it into: "I know nothing about how an automobile is designed or engineered, and am only playing up a centuries old stereotype that was pre-scripted for me..."

"I state here, flatly, in case some of you don't know, that the maximum acceleration a car can achieve, when the coefficient of frction between its tires and the road is 1"

Actually you should be on the gas enough to maintain speed. Otherwise the engine would be braking for you... Unless you are running a corner in neutral.

There are a lot of morons in this thread. PAY ATTENTION TO WHAT HE SAYS ABOUT THE FRICTION COEFFICIENT. Clearly cars that go faster have a higher friction coefficient than 1!

Sorry for the delay in my jumping into this conversation. The universe has been keeping me quite busy lately, but I'm always happy to see long threads that debate applications of the laws of physics. A sure sign that science is trending in the world.

Baby sh*t green metallic.

Honestly, everybody needs to decamp the bandwagon. Almost everybody commenting is rattling off the same, elitist, load of crap. Commenter after commenter and the same knee-jerk, dumb-shit comments....
