Have you seen The Gift? A surprising, but ultimately astute bit of casting.

My VPN lets me act like I'm in Europe. Look, now I'm in Germany! Now I'm in Romania! Shit, now I'm in Florida!
That's not how science works, at least as I was trained. Every theory is subject to "Falsifiability"…if new data emerges that convincingly challenges it.
OK, computer.
The ice-fishing scene in I Am Not a Serial Killer.
Yep. And while I'm sick of zombies, the idea he's re-conceptualizing the story gives me some hope.
Wouldn't it be better to say "theories explain data"?
Yes, the people "debating" science don't understand how it works. The trick, it seems, is how to present the case in a way that doesn't allow ignorant critics to think they're arguing from a position of equal footing. Which seems to be the case with folks who say things like "Intelligent design is a theory, just like…
Most of America already smells like shitty fried food.
In presenting their case, I'd prefer the scientists use the word "data" and not "facts." As in, Global Warming and Evolution are both theories…that just happen to have a stupendous amount of data, coming from a variety of different directions and research paradigms, that support them.
The question of "is he a replicant?" is It's pretty definitively answered in the book. Or do the unnecessary vagaries of the movie constitute it's own "canon."
Good point. I guess my feelings with Lewis is that both the artist and pretty much everyone who's seen it seem to think it's a failure. But times change, etc. etc.
Probably not. Lewis himself has said it's "bad, bad, bad," in the sense that he hadn't properly figured out a way to handle extraordinarily sensitive material. So if an artist tells you up front, "hey, the work is shit," would you go out of your way to see it anyway?
Thanks! I never thought a Yog-Sothoth would have such great dental work.
Just don't call her "hoary."
A princess in Lovecraft? That's a really odd pairing.
Fantastic Planet was also just Blu-Rayed by Criterion. I'm hoping it trickles its way to Hulu.
Wait. 'Vinyl Me Please' is for albums?
Guess I'll be cancelling.
Jack's wearing what appears to be an aviation headset (minus the mic.) Suggesting the coolest cockpit ever.
About the book: yea or nay? I've never read any Eggers, and while the setup looks interesting, it also seems about 10-years too late. (I ran into that when I tried reading William Gibson.)
