Except you did have to gather hundreds of valor and justice coins for armor and weapons. And the dungeons were really only difficult for a few weeks, after that it was get a pally or dk tank to mass pull and aoe.

A lot of the base games difficulty comes from how you level. The enemies level up with you, as do their jobs. But they also go based on picking up specific job abilities. If you max out a summoner early on, you can be in for a bad time, same with time mage. If you skip those and lwvel monk you are in for an easy ride.

A monk is still getting one or two shot by a chocobo. Also, red chocobo appearing on chapter one are a bad time. But yes monks are the best for it .

if you want it harder for the sake of harder, be like me, try and master ALL classes in chapter one, I had all 99's, level 8 in all jobs, all mastered, but only the shitty level 1 gear. Do you realize how weak you are as a 99 monk in level 1 gear vs a 99 chocobo?
