The Japanese/Korean car makers that assemble cars in the U.S. do not have to pay UAW pension/health care costs and tend to have more automated factories (you can guess what’s stopping GM/Ford/Dodge from automating more of their factories). I’m completely pro-union but the result of paying these higher benefits is that

Investors don’t care if you sold 250,000 cars but lost $100m doing so, at that point they’d rather have you not sell those cars and focus on selling ones that do make a profit.

I bought a loaded one brand new for $29k and use it for commuting 60 miles a day on the freeway. It’s really a great and underappreciated car, I cross-shopped it against the GTI, BRZ, Miata, and Focus ST and am not disappointed in my decision. The 3.8 with a 6-speed manual gives a really connected feeling driving

I’m guessing choosing those options forced other options to be selected

The BRZ/86 is just a tough value proposition, I was able to get a fully loaded brand-new 348hp Hyundai Genesis Coupe for the same price as a BRZ Limited. I do think they’re going to be quite popular 10-15 years from now when they’re cheap enough to buy used and slap a turbo on it
