I live in Oklahoma, and I see this practice every day. I haven't ever noticed any side effects from it, but not many have water wells here.

@Gizundheit: There are problems with having a facebook connected account for some reason, you are not the first person I have talked to that has a problem. There seems to be lots of problems when logging in to them.
